TRENDS AND PITFALLS WITH NOMENCLATURES AND CLASSIFICATIONS IN MEDICINE

This paper reflects some of the main points in the history and the tre nds of classifications, nomenclatures and knowledge representation mod els in medicine. The relations with philosophical background are brief ly related. The contributions in this field during the Medical Informa tics Europe (MIE) conference in 1997 are presented. International coll aborations in the field of lexico-semantic resources and inter-discipl inary partnership in natural language processing technologies are nece ssary steps to achieve definitive results that will lead to applicatio ns in the daily medical practice.
