Abstract
The tubular wire process has been employed to fabricate YBa2Cu3O6+x/Ag -Pd composite tapes. Tapes have been zone melt textured while maintain ing the structural integrity of the tape. Speeds comparable to those u sed for texturing uncladded Y123 have proven unsuccessful in maintaini ng a stable growth front. Modelling has been used to explore possible causes for this difference. Reduced rare-earth ion solubility in the m elt is the likely cause for the lower processing speeds.
