Pc. Eccardt et al., APPLICATIONS OF FINITE-ELEMENT SIMULATIONS TO ACOUSTIC-WAVE PROPAGATION WITHIN FLOWING MEDIA, International journal of computer applications in technology, 11(3-5), 1998, pp. 163-169
A finite element method for acoustic wave propagation based on a modif
ied wave equation is established, taking into account the influence of
a time-independent inhomogeneous flow on the acoustic waves. The simu
lation scheme is verified for homogeneous flow validated with geometri
cal acoustics for inhomogeneous flow profiles and compared with previo
usly developed techniques, such as Helmholtz-Kirchhoff integral and ra
y tracing methods [4, 13]. As applications, an ultrasound flowmeter an
d a sound protection shield are studied for different flow profiles.
