Abstract
In this paper an insight into the problem of the 'sliding-valve' effec t is discussed for general industrial applications. The 'curved-pipe' effect is also considered for applications in two-stroke engines. The background to the treatment of variable openings for two-stroke engine s is reviewed. A novel method for a moving mesh is presented in the si mulation of a changing geometry with variable openings using a multi-d imensional CFD code. The results of applying this model to direct-fuel -injection two-stroke engines are presented.
