H. Egekvist et P. Bjerring, COMPARISON OF THE ANALGESIC EFFECT OF EMLA(R) CREAM AND EMLA(R) PATCHON NORMAL SKIN EVALUATED WITH LASER-INDUCED PAIN STIMULI, Acta dermato-venereologica, 77(3), 1997, pp. 214-216
In the present study the onset, duration and efficacy of the analgesic
effect of EMLA(R) patch compared to EMLA(R) cream were investigated o
n the skin of the forearms of 12 healthy adults, EMLA(R) patch and cre
am were applied for 30, 60 and 120 min, The pain threshold was determi
ned 5 min after removal of the test substance, using high-energy argon
laser stimuli, and thereafter every 30 min for 4 h, After 120 min of
application, both EMLA(R) cream and EMLA(R) patch ensured total analge
sia, The clinical analgesic efficacy of EMLA(R) patch was found equal
to that of EMLA(R) cream.
