Two N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) diaza-24-crown-8 potassium and sodium com
plexes have been prepared by a one-step reaction of ethanolamine with
1,11-dichloro-3,6,9-trioxaundecane. Their structures are ascertained b
y elemental analyses,H-1,C-13 NMR and FTIR spectra. To corroborate fur
ther the structure assignments single-crystal structures of the comple
xes ,19-hexaoxa-10,22-diazacyclotetracosane-bis(sodium iodide) monohyd
rate and -bis(potassium iodide) monohydrate were determined. The struc
tural features of the complexes are compared with each other and those
of diazacrown ethers and cryptates.
