M. Dekinkelder et H. Boelens, HABIT-REVERSAL TREATMENT FOR CHILDRENS STUTTERING - ASSESSMENT IN 3 SETTINGS, Journal of behavior therapy and experimental psychiatry, 29(3), 1998, pp. 261-265
Two boys (9 and 14 years old) participated in an evaluation of treatme
nt for stuttering. Habit reversal procedures (awareness training, regu
lated breathing, and social support) were combined with teaching posit
ive attitudes to parents. During treatment, stuttering frequencies dec
reased, speech rates increased, and speech naturalness ratings increas
ed. These changes occurred in the clinic, the child's home, and the ch
ild's school. After treatment, stuttering remained low in the clinic a
nd at home, but increased stuttering was found at school. (C) 1998 Els
