The deformation behaviour of a 15 vol%TiC particulate reinforced Ti-6A
l-4V composite was investigated under monotonic loading at elevated te
mperatures. The mechanical behaviour under compressive and tensile loa
ding was found to be similar. There is a significant improvement in st
rength and creep resistance of Ti-6Al-4V on reinforcement with TiC par
ticulates. The deformation behaviour of the Ti-composite was found to
be qualitatively similar to the matrix alloy Ti-6Al-4V. It has been sh
ows that the addition of TiC particulates refines the microstructure o
f Ti-6Al-3V alloy significantly and is responsible for the improved pr
operties of the composite. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science S.A.
