Some new co-polyhydrazides were synthesized using a low-temperature so
lution polycondensation technique. Polycondensation of hydroquinone 1,
4-diacetic acid dihydrazide (1) and 2-bromo-, 2-chloro- and 2-nitrohyd
roquinone-1,4-diacetic acid dihydrazide (2, 3 and 4) with terephthaloy
l or isophthaloyl chloride in dimethyl-formamide gave the correspondin
g co-polyhydrazides (5-12), respectively. Their thermal analysis, solu
bility in different solvents and the effects of variable reaction cond
itions on the yield percents and viscosity values are studied. The str
uctures of the prepared co-polyhydrazides were confirmed by elemental
analysis, infrared (i.r.) and H-1-NMR spectroscopy. (C) 1997 Elsevier
