This paper presents the spectral and angular dependences of the radian
ce coefficients r(lambda) of ice and water clouds, obtained by the aut
hors by processing the data of aircraft-based, balloon-based, and spac
e experiments and published materials. The characteristics of the radi
ation are obtained for the 0.4-4.0-mu m spectral range and scattering
angles of 20-180 degrees. It is shown that there is a difference in th
e spectral and angular dependences of r(lambda) for ice and water clou
ds. A difference is pointed out in the spectral behavior of r(lambda)
of ice clouds for scattering angles of gamma<50 degrees and gamma>50 d
egrees. (C) 1998 The Optical Society of America. [S1070-9762(98)00511-
