Cy. Kuo et al., OXIDATION OF AQUEOUS CHLOROPHENOLS WITH PHOTO-FENTON PROCESS, Journal of environmental science and health. Part B. Pesticides, food contaminants, and agricultural wastes, 33(6), 1998, pp. 723-747
Research of 2,4-chlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol in aqueous solu
tion using the photo-Fenton process was conducted in two parts. The fi
rst part of the study explored the treatment efficiency and reaction r
ate expression of 2,4-chlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol. With res
pect to the simulated experimental data, the relationship between the
reaction rate for 2,4-chlorophenol and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol and H2O2
concentration was expressed as a first-order reaction and that between
the reaction rate and the Fe(II) concentration was a saturation-type
reaction. In the second half of this study, chlorohydroquinone, catech
ol, dichlorocatechol, and dichlororesorcinol were found in the photo-F
enton process by GC/MS. Some of these identified intermediates were mo
re toxic than the primary compound.
