Abstract
This paper presents an algorithm for the computation of fault location for a transmission line by means of the voltage and current signals, acquired by the digital distance relays at both the terminals of the l ine. Based on the proposed algorithm, the fault distance can be calcul ated accurately and quickly, even though the two digital distance rela ys are of different types with different sampling frequencies. This pr oposed fault location method is suitable for the condition that there are communication links between a power grid dispatch centre and the d igital distance relays.
