The complexation of copper(II) ion and nucleotides by an octaaza macro
cyclic ligand 3,6,9,17,20,23,29,30-octaazatricyclo ,1,1(11,15)]trracon
ta-1(29),11,13,15,25,27-hexaene (BPBD) has been studied by potentiomet
ric titration. Catalytic hydrolysis of ATP promoted by protonated BPBD
has been investigated and the influence of pH on rate enhancements ha
ve been determined by HPLC. In addition, the crystal structure of a di
nuclear Cu(II) complex [BPBDCu2](ClO4)(4). 4DMF (1) and the preliminar
y structure of a binary complex HxBPBD-Tp (2) are reported. Complex 1
crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, with
a = 11.908(8), b = 12.851(1), c = 9.209(7) Angstrom, alpha = 107.20(6
), beta = 101.85(6), gamma = 68.84(6)degrees, and Z = 2. Each copper(I
I) ion is coordinated by one pyridine nitrogen and three amino nitroge
ns, forming a square planar geometry. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. A
