Abstract
Transmission Mossbauer spectroscopy has been used to obtain informatio n on structural and chemical conversions in the surface layers during preparation of finely dispersed iron powders by high-temperature reduc tion of alpha-FeOOH. The two-stage technique of preparing Fe-56-based particles with an Fe-57 surface layer makes it possible to obtain high -quality Mossbauer spectra from surface layers 4-5 nm thick on differe nt reduction stages. The investigations performed allowed us to consid er the possibility of studying physicochemical processes in ultrathin surface layers by means of transmission Mossbauer spectroscopy.
