In this paper we discuss detection problems for a high resolution rada
r. Fluctuation in the target radar cross section usually decreases the
probability of detection. However, through integration of cells withi
n range profiles of a high resolution radar, variation of the integrat
ed magnitude with respect to the change of carrier frequency and targe
t aspect becomes much smaller, and this is helpful for improving the p
robability of detection. Two detection algorithms, the cell integratio
n method and the correlation method, for a high resolution radar are p
roposed, and their detection performances are compared with that obtai
ned by a conventional low resolution radar. Some theoretical formulati
ons are developed. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the pr
oposed algorithms.
