Jf. Phillips, APPLICATIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL-BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT IN SCHOOLS AND DAY TREATMENT SETTINGS, Journal of organizational behavior management, 18(2-3), 1998, pp. 103-129
Organizational behavior management (OBM) has been applied in school an
d day placement settings for approximately 35 pears. During this time,
OEM has made numerous and varied contributions in terms of improving
quality supports and services through effective training and managemen
t of school and day placement staff. Previous reviews have summarized
and critiqued the OEM literature through the 1980s. This review summar
izes and describes the most recent findings, developments, and trends
with respect to behavioral training and management of educational staf
f in classrooms and related settings. Nineteen studies are reviewed wi
th respect to: intervention effectiveness, efficiency, effects on stud
ent performance, durability, acceptability, reactivity, generalization
and comprehensiveness. While considerable knowledge has been acquired
about various aspects of behavioral training and management of educat
ional staff, much more information is needed in a variety of areas. Su
ggestions for future research include additional investigations of met
hods to: increase efficiency of OEM efforts through antecedent interve
ntions, ensure durability of intervention efforts, increase generality
of training and management efforts, and increase acceptance of OEM ef
forts.
