Ag. Morachevskii, PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL STUDIES OF DESULFATION OF LEAD-CONTAINING MATERIALS, Russian journal of applied chemistry, 71(6), 1998, pp. 905-914
By desulfation of lead-containing materials is meant the reaction of l
ead sulfate contained in them with solutions of carbonates or hydroxid
es of alkali metals to transfer the SO42- ion into aqueous phase. Data
are considered on chemical equilibria underlying desulfation processe
s and kinetics of these processes, together with technological informa
tion concerning both the desulfation itself and the subsequent process
ing of desulfated materials. Desulfation of active masses contained in
the scrap of lead storage batteries is discussed as an important stag
e of an ecologically safe technology of their processing.
