Abstract
ASCE annually awards the Daniel W. Mead prizes to younger members and students in recognition of original papers on professional ethics. Est ablished and endowed in 1939 by Daniel W. Mead a former president and an honorary member of the society, the contest selects winners based o n content, organization and writing quality The Committee on Student A ctivities, currently chaired by Catherine Smith, and the Committee on Younger Members, chaired by Jill Organ, choose nominees from each of t he four zones and from among the international membership. National wi nners receive a certificate and a plaque, and their essays are publish ed in Civil Engineering and presented at the society's national conven tion. Only one essay can be submitted from each section/branch or stud ent chapter/club. For younger members, the entry must be submitted to ASCE's executive director, Jim Davis, by the section or branch secreta ry by Feb. 1. For student, the entry must transmitted to the executive director by the chapter's faculty adviser by March 1. The contests ar e open to ASCE student members and ASCE younger members, the latter de fined as members or associate members who are 35 or younger as of Feb. 1 in the year of the award.
