V. Jha et al., SECONDARY MEMBRANOPROLIFERATIVE GLOMERULONEPHRITIS DUE TO HEMOLYTIC-UREMIC SYNDROME - AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION, Renal failure, 20(6), 1998, pp. 845-850
Secondary membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis is an uncommon diso
rder. A six year old girl presented to us with microangiopathic hemoly
tic anemia and nephrotic syndrome and the renal biopsy showed membrano
proliferative glomerulonephritis. Demonstration of fibrin thrombus in
one glomerulus pointed to hemolytic uremic syndrome as the cause of me
mbranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. Institution of plasma exchange
quickly reversed both the microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and the n
ephrotic syndrome. The relationship between HUS and glomerular disease
is discussed.
