Abstract
Numerical simulation of laser induced phase transitions (melting, soli dification, evaporation) in a near-surface region of CdTe and HgCdTe w as carried out. The possibility of solidification from the outer surfa ce of the melted layer caused by a vaporization of volatile component (Cd, Hg, etc.) was shown. This allows to explain experimentally observ ed high defectiveness of the laser-processed layer. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
