Abstract
The aim of this work is to present the first synthesis of long-chain-s ubstituted orthophenylenediamines starting from 1,2-dialkoxybenzenes, which were dinitrated in one step under biphasic conditions. A subsequ ent reduction reaction, using aqueous hydrazine and palladium on activ ated charcoal, led to the desired aromatic diamines, which are useful synthons in the synthesis of mesomorphic dibenzotetraaza[14]annulene c omplexes.
