The temperature dependent and concentration asymmetric interaction par
ameter in the liquid phase region is computed from reliable thermodyna
mic data and phase-boundary composition by treating the single liquid
phase of Cs-Te as a sub-regular solution. The excess Gibbs energy of t
he liquid phase of Cs-Te is determined to be G(E)(L) = x(Cs) x x(Te) {
(-289 - 0.00144 x T) x(Te) + (-972 + 0.482713 x T) x(Cs)} kJ/mol in th
e temperature range 900-1100 K. The interaction parameter so deduced i
s used to calculate the activities of Te and Cs in the single liquid p
hase and two-phase regions around Cs2Te. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V
