Abstract
Acicular geothite-magnetite particles were prepared directly by microw ave-driven hydrolysis of an aqueous solution of ferric and ferrous sal ts in the ratio Fe3+:Fe2+ = 1:2, which is appropriate to magnetite. Th e experimental conditions that influence the shape and size of the par ticles were determined, and the mechanism of the formation of acicular particles is discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
