Abstract
All major LEP experiments are equipped with silicon strip vertex detec tors. Most of them have been upgraded several times to improve their p erformance and to match LEP2 requirements. The article reviews and com pares the concepts of the vertex detectors at LEP and focusses on the experience gained by the detector groups. Solutions to problems encoun tered during construction and operation are discussed and aspects conc erning maintenance presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All right s reserved.
