Abstract
In the last few years, significant changes in the attitudes toward the West have occurred in Russia. While ''old'' Russian liberals, like Eg or Gaidar, treated the West as a Russian ally, the ''new'' liberals, s uch as Boris Nemtsov, perceived the West as a rival approaching, in th is respect, Russian communists and nationalists who see in the West an eternal enemy. The author describes this change using various informa tion from the Russian media and surveys. (C) 1998 The Regents of the U niversity of California. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
