Abstract
The effect of RF phase noise on the performance of quadrature amplitud e modulated (QAM) fibre optic links is investigated using a Taylor ser ies approximation. The use of a Taylor expansion reduces the computati on time by a factor of more than 10(3). Simulation results obtained fo r 64- and 256-QAM systems agree with the conventional performance comp utation techniques.
