At the beginning of the 19(th) century the ''k.k. Thierarzneyinstitut'
' was subsided to the medical faculty of the university of Vienna, the
veterinary medicine was enclosed in a system of state medical police
and a multiple personal union between human medicine and veterinary me
dicine existed. In this development a pair of brothers of bohemian ori
gin, Johann Emanuel Veith and Johann Elias Veith, played an important
role. The familiar roots of the brothers are presented, furthermore th
eir connection to the medical society of Vienna and finally genealogic
al aspects.
