Abstract
This article describes OUZO, a design system for chemical separation t hat supports engineering design from physical principles. The main ide a behind OUZO is the orchestration of the interaction between physical and design knowledge. The program supports and controls the applicati on of a set of representations and reasoning methods, thereby allowing different types of physical and design knowledge to interact effectiv ely with each other.
