Abstract
1- This study used quantitative receptor autoradiography to evaluate i f the hyperdopaminergic state in the striatum of schizophrenics is ass ociated with decreased NK1 receptor density. 2- A significant increase of NK1 sites was detected in caudate and nucleus accumbens of schizop hrenic patients as compared to controls. No statistical difference was observed for the putamen. 3- Neuroleptics used in the treatment of sc hizophrenia may be responsible for the observed increase in NK1 recept ors.
