We have developed a universal specimen construction allowing us to reg
ister acoustic emission with different loading programs (tension, comp
ression) without remounting the specimen. Extraneous acoustic noise wh
ich inevitably arises in the bearing surface zone on loading the speci
mens in the macroelastic region is eliminated as a result of changing
the construction of the specimen and rigidly securing the threaded end
s in the grips of the testing machine. We present the results of deter
mination of the mechanical properties (sigma(i)(AE), sigma(max)(AE), s
igma(0.2)) and examples of the acoustic emission diagrams obtained wit
h different loading programs using specimens of this construction.
