Abstract
The operating speed of paper machines is increasing rapidly which pose s new challenges to the control systems of different subprocesses e.g. a headbox. In this paper, control of the headbox with a multivariable PI controller implemented in an industrial automation system has been studied. The results were good and proved the advantage of a multivar iable controller during normal production run and in special situation s. Special attention was paid to the configuration of different contro ller modes and the start-up of the headbox process.
