Abstract
The Wiener index (W) of certain classes of hexagonal chains is examine d. Necessary and sufficient conditions for their W-values to be congru ent module 16 are established. As a corollary, a necessary condition f or the coincidence of Wiener indices of hexagonal chains is formulated .
