Systematic attempts of chlorine incorporation were implemented in fluo
rogallate and fluoroindate glasses. High chloride content was achieved
in the InF3-BaF2-PbCl2-NaCl system. Up to 15 mol% NaCl or 7.5 mol% Pb
Cl2 could be incorporated in glasses based on GaF3 or GaF3-InF3. The e
ffect of chlorine content on glass formation and properties has been i
nvestigated. IR cut-off is shifted toward longer wavelength and (1)G(4
) fluorescence lifetime of Pr3+ doping ions is increased. Such composi
tions have been used for the core of experimental optical fibers. (C)
