Abstract
Support provided by local churches to individuals with disabilities wa s studied through a mail survey. Results indicated that 56 of 69 of ch urches surveyed (81%) were attended by individuals with developmental disabilities. Additionally, support was being provided by respondent c hurches in the form of food, transportation, opportunities for service to the church and the community, and social/emotional support among o thers. Recommendations are made for further study into developing the potential of the local church as an existing resource for supporting i ndividuals with developmental disabilities in the community.
