Abstract
Involving caregivers as active participants in the life-long education of their children, siblings, or clients requires inviting them to use systematic procedures to deliver effective instruction. In this study , four caregivers used a 4-s constant time delay procedure they had ac quired during a previous study (Wall & Gast, 1997) to teach leisure sk ills to adolescents or adults with moderate or severe intellectual dis abilities. A multiple probe design across behaviors and replicated acr oss four leisure learners demonstrated the success of the participant- instructors in delivering systematic instruction. Results of the study not only contribute to the existing literature on systematic instruct ional procedures, caregivers' active participation in ongoing educatio nal processes and home-based interventions, but offer several implicat ions for family and teacher education programs, collaborative research models, and ideas for future research.
