Ch. Cheng et Ci. Lin, ENHANCEMENT OF SULFATION OF MAGNESIUM BRIDE BY IRON-OXIDE, Journal of the Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers, 28(5), 1997, pp. 359-367
The adsorption of SO2 by MgO pellet with Fe2O3 additive was investigat
ed by thermogravimetric method. Surface areas, pore volumes and pore s
ize distributions of pellet at different stages of reaction were deter
mined by a surface area meter. The compositions of some solid samples
were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer. Experimental results indicated
that the reaction rate could be enhanced by increasing the amount of F
e2O3, decreasing the grain size of Fe2O3 or increasing the sulfation t
emperature. The enhancement of the adsorption of SO2 is probably due t
o the catalytic effect of Fe2O3 on the oxidation of SO2 to form SO3 wh
ich is captured by MgO.
