Abstract
A configuration of a switching fabric based on semiconductor optical a mplifiers (SOAs) is presented. This configuration has an output noise (ASE) almost independent of the number of input/output ports of the sw itch, allowing more fabrics to be cascaded. The large gain required by each SOA can be overcome by distributing the gain over several stages . (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
