Hs. Mahal et al., PULSE-RADIOLYSIS STUDY OF 2-MERCAPTOBENZOTHIAZOLE - A CORROSION-INHIBITOR, Research of chemical intermediates, 23(8), 1997, pp. 715-733
Pulse radiolysis of 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (2-MBT) has been undertake
n in aqueous solution. The semi-oxidized species formed at pH 4.5 due
to the reaction of OH., Br-2(.-) and N-3(.) and at pH 10.5 with OH. yi
elded a spectrum with lambda(max) = 348 and 595 nm. These semi-oxidize
d species were able to oxidize phenothiazine drugs (E degrees congruen
t to 0.8 V). Reducing species such as e(aq)(-), CO2.- and H-. atoms re
act with 2-MBT resulting in the formation of a transient having lambda
(max) = 350 nm and reducing in nature. Kinetic and spectroscopic data
of interest are reported.
