A flow-through electrode with a high conversion efficiency has been de
veloped for chromatographic detection as well as other on-line electro
chemical applications. A small length of reticulated vitreous carbon m
aterial of high pore density permits excellent conversion of some orga
nic compounds. This can easily be employed in dual electrode applicati
ons with radial or cross flow thin-layer detectors. When used as a gen
erator electrode, it can improve selectivity for electrochemically act
ive compounds in chromatographic detection and microdialysis/biosensor
combinations.
