In this work we report on the temperature dependence of the homogeneou
s line width (Gamma(h)) in 4ZnO . 3B(2)O(3):Eu3+ glass in the region b
etween 30 K and room temperature. The time resolved resonant fluoresce
nce line narrowing technique was applied to the F-7(o) <--> D-5(o) tra
nsition of Eu3+. We obtain that Gamma(h) follows the commonly found be
haviour T-2 in the whole range of temperature (30-300 K). The Gamma(h)
is comparable to that measured in berate glasses with a small amount
of network modifier. This result, together with a linear increase of G
amma(h) with the excitation energy within the inhomogeneous profile, i
s indicative of a specific local environment around the Eu3+ ion in th
e zinc berate glass. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
