Thermally stimulated currents (TSC) are examined in a material with ra
ndomly fluctuating energies of the localized states. It is shown that,
under these conditions, distributions of the localized state density
recovered from TSC data, represent distributions of effective activati
on energies (DEAE) rather than the true density-of-state (DOS) functio
n. The difference between DEAE and DOS increases with decreasing heati
ng rate used to obtain the TSC transients, as well as with decreasing
starting temperature. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
