Ce. Leshock et Yc. Shin, INVESTIGATION ON GUTTING TEMPERATURE IN TURNING BY A TOOL-WORK THERMOCOUPLE TECHNIQUE, Journal of manufacturing science and engineering, 119(4A), 1997, pp. 502-508
Tool-chip interface temperature is analyzed experimentally during turn
ing of 4140 steel alloy and Inconel 718 with tungsten carbide tools us
ing a tool-work thermocouple technique. The experimental results are c
ompared with Loewen and Shaw's analytical results. Based on the experi
mental results, an empirical model relating the tool face temperature
to cutting conditions is established for 4140 steel alloys with tungst
en carbide tools. Finally, the tool-chip interface is investigated wit
h flank and crater wear to determine the effect of tool face temperatu
re on these tool wear mechanisms.
