A. Iwabuchi et al., DIE LIFE AND WORKPIECE PROPERTIES UNDER DRY CONDITION IN HIGH-SPEED PRESSWORKING, Journal of manufacturing science and engineering, 119(4A), 1997, pp. 550-555
To explore the feasibility of ''oil-fee'' pressworking, we investigate
d the effects on the life of SKD11 steel dies and the quality of phosp
hor bronze workpieces under lubricated and unlubricated or dry conditi
ons. In addition, the performance of SKD11 dies coated with TiN was we
ll as cemented tungsten carbide dies were also examined under dry cond
itions. Results show that the life of unlubricated SKD11 dies is about
half of that under lubricated conditions. The cemented tungsten carbi
de die gives superior die life and workpiece qualify even under dry us
e conditions.
