BLOCK-COPOLYMER EPITAXY

Polymer induced epitaxy allows polymer epitaxy to be used not only for growth of crystalline polymers but also in techniques for functionali zing surfaces. A method is described by which it is possible to produc e a crystalline polymer block epitaxially on a substrate with a non-cr ystalline block-which can later be functionalized-anchored to the crys talline block but not attached to the surface (see Figure).
