For the use of remote solar energy sources, the generation of liquid f
uels is an interesting extension because an existing infrastructure fo
r transportation and distribution is available. In this paper two proc
esses for climate neutral methanol synthesis working with high tempera
ture processes for syngas generation from CO2 and water are described.
They offer a better efficiency for the use of solar energy compared t
o alternative processes with higher electricity demand. The CO2 enrich
ment from the atmosphere has a higher energy demand compared to the re
covery from concentrated emissions, but the use of solar energy for th
e enrichment process leads to the decision to use atmospheric CO2. (C)
