The lithological and micropaleontological study of the Jurassic of the Herm
on Mountain (SW of Syria) furnishes new stratigraphical information on this
region. The discovery of triassic foraminifera (Aulotortus spp.) at the lo
wer part of Hermon sedimentary series gave evidence of the presence of Tria
ssic in the Hermon area. At the same time, the discovery of the liassic for
aminifer (Pseudo-cyclammina liasica HOTTINGER) in the overlapping levels, g
ave evidence also of the presence of Lias. The thick basaltic layer (spilli
te) which is interstratified in the sedimentary series is therefore situate
d in the lower Jurassic.
The Tithonian is absent in the Anti-Lebanon, due to an important stratigrap
hic hiatus. This hiatus reaches the Neocomian. The biozonation by Larger Ko
raminifera which is established in the Coastal Chain (Jibal As-Sahilyeh) NW
of Syria, is valid in the Anti-Lebanon.
