The paper presents the activities of Romanian specialists concerned wi
th CO2 emissions arising from human activities, primarily the main fac
tors responsible for the rapid climate changes. The first section show
s the CO2 emissions' level for the last years, related to European emi
ssions, concurrently with a comparative presentation of main sources a
nd their contribution to the global CO2 emissions in Romania. Furtherm
ore the paper presents the prognosis for the CO2 emissions' evolution
in Romania up to 2020. Further, the research activity performed in Rom
ania and the results obtained so far are presented for the development
of a suitable CO2 retention technology to reduce CO2 emissions from f
lue gas generated by power plants. The paper also highlights the possi
bilities for further utilization in industry of the CO2 retained throu
gh application of the technology developed by ICPET-CERCETARE for CO2
retention.
