Delprete, P. G. (Institute of Systematic Botany, New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, NY 10458-5126, U.S.A.). Riodocea (Rubiaceae, Gardenieae), a new gen us from the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Brittonia 51: 15-23. 1999.-The genus Riodocea is here described from material collected in the varzea forest of the Rio Doce Valley, northern Espirito Santo. Riodocea is a monotypic genu s probably related to the Amazonian endemic Kurchubaea. A line drawing show s general morphology and photomicrographs show pollen morphology of Riodoce a pulcherrima, Distribution maps of Riodocea and kutchubaea are included. The valley of the Rio Doce is here included in the Bahian Hylaea, defined a s a subregion of the Brazilian Atlantic forest. The connections between the Amazonian Hylaea and the Bahian Hylaea are discussed.
