Bednarek-Ochyra, Il., R. Ochyra (Laboratory of Bryology, Institute of Botan y, Polish Academy of Sciences, ul. Lubicz 46, PL-31-512 Krakow, Poland) & W . R. Buck (Institute of Systematic Botany, The New York Botanical Garden, B ronx, NY 10458-5126, U.S.A.). The genus Rncomitrium (Grimmiaceae) in Brazil , with the first report of R. subsecundum in South America. Brittonia 51: 9 3-105. 1999. -Four species of the moss genus Racomitrium Brid. are reported from Brazil: R. subsecundum (Harv.) Wils., R. didymum (Mont.) Lorentz, R. crispipilum (Taylor) A. Jaeger, and R. visnadiae W. R. Buck. Racomitrium su bsecundum is reported for the first time from South America in Brazil and C olombia. The species is fully described and illustrated. Racomitrium didymu m is recorded for the first time from Brazil; the specimens previously assi gned to R. crispulum (Hook.f. & Wils.) Hook.f. & Wile. represent this speci es. Racomitrium cuculla-tifolium Hampe and R. crispulum (Hook.f. & Wils.) H ook.f. & Wils. are excluded from the Brazilian bryophyte flora. All Brazili an species of Racomitrium are briefly assessed taxonomically and bryogeogra phically and illustrated, and a key to their determination is given. A lect otype is selected for Grimmia didyma Mont.
