The existence of a qualitative correlation between the sedimentation stabil
ity of low-concentrated kaolinite suspensions and the acid-base properties
of the dispersion medium was established experimentally. It was shown that
the forces of adhesion at the particle-solvent and particle-stabilizer inte
rfaces primarily affect the stability of the systems studied. From the view
point of specific interaction, this implies that the dispersion stabilizati
on occurs when the dispersion medium has similar and the stabilizer dissimi
lar acid-base properties with respect to the surface of the dispersed phase
